He is a mecha designer, writer and anime director born on February 20, 1960 in Toyama, Japan. He got his start in the anime industry as a teen intern at Studio_Nue, but made his breakthrough as a creator by helping create Choujiku_Yousai_Macross. He helped develop the story and concept of the series and helped create the series' iconic mechs. Although he did not direct the original series, Kawamori ended up having the longest tenure on the Macross franchise, and directed almost every other subsequent installment, and the franchise embodies much of Kawamori's trademarks as a creator. Kawamori is most well known for his mech designs and helped popularize the concept of transforming mechs with his mechs switching between a vehicle form based off a real world vehicle and a humanoid mech form during combat. His stories often combine action and romance, with his main protagonists switching between engaging in epic battles and resolving their personal issues and romantic entanglements with multiple love interests. Music often plays an important role in both the anime's plot and its atmosphere. In spite of his roots in Studio Nue, Kawamori spend most of the later years in his career at Satelight, where he serves as Senior Managing Director.
